Reaching Berlin

Berlin has two main airports. Tegel International Airport is in the north west of Berlin . Schönefeld is to the southeast of Berlin.

By bus
Long distance buses arrive at Zentraler Omnibusbahnhof in Charlottenburg.

By train
The three main stations Hauptbahnhof, Südkreuz and Ostbahnhof are connected to either S or U-Bahn.

Air:
The two major airports serving Berlin are Schönefeld and Tegel, although Schönefeld will be re-branded as Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport in 2012 after increasing passenger numbers and importance have prompted further development.
Schönefeld sits 11 miles southeast of the city centre and is served by a railway station appoximately five minutes’ walk from the terminal. From here the Red airport express train runs every half hour directly to the centre of the city stopping at selected stations (Berlin Ostbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Friedrichstrasse, Central Station (after 30 minutes), and Zoologischer Garten railway station). Alternatively, the taxis waiting directly outside the airport building can whisk you into the centre of town in about the same time and will cost you 30 euros.
Tegel is situated 5 miles North of Berlin and is the base for the national airline Lufthansa. The airport does not have a rail link with the centre of Berlin, and for those wishing to use public transport The TXL airport express bus leaves regularly from outside the terminal and takes 20 minutes to the central station. Taxi’s are a good option here, and will be able to take you most places in the city for around 15 Euros.
Rail:
The new central station (Hauptbahnhof) will be the arrival point for most train passengers. It has good connections both to the public transport system and a European wide rail network. The Deutsche Bahn website has an English version and is an excellent resource for times and fares.
Bus:
The central coach station (Zentraler Omnibusbahnhof) is located in Charlottenburg and offers connections to over 350 destinations throughout the continent. Asides from at larger stations, look for Berlin Infostores for details on current timetables and fares.
