Many of the Berlin attractions reflect the place it has had in history, particularly during the twentieth century. Once a divided city the Berlin Wall has been removed but pieces remain with interesting murals around the city. The Checkpoint Charlie Museum depicts life behind the Iron Curtain and the moving attempts of those who tried to escape.
Visit the Reichstag, the German Parliament building designed by Sir Normal Foster and see the Brandenburg Gate. See the Alexanderplatz, once a central part of East Germany and stroll down Unter den Linden, Berlin’s most beautiful avenue, perhaps taking in a concert at the State Opera House.
Shop on Kurfurstendamm and take a look in KaDeWe, the largest department store in Europe. Potsdam is a great place to spend a day visiting the Charlottenburg Palace and the Park and Palace of Sanssouci. Reflect at the Place of Remembrance for Jews in Berlin and look to the future with the diversity and new buildings springing up all over the city. For a relaxing day take a boat trip on the river in the Spreewald Forest, or visit the Englisher Park in the centre of Berlin. See urban art by taking a street art safari through Berlin which encapsulates the freedom of expression that parts of the city did not have for several years.
